No, This is Not a Joke Headline in The Onion
Bristol Palin Sets Up PR Firm. She's 19, by the way. If you're in the market for such senior-level counsel, do give her a call. While we're ordinarily the last ones to rain on anyone's entrepreneurial dreams, and believe that starting as early as possible is generally the right thing to do, this does stretch things a bit.
How Bristol figures she is responsible for getting information out to the media is amusing. Maybe Rielle Hunter should start her own firm.
ReplyDeleteWhat's really happening here, no doubt, is not so much about PR in the traditional sense as it is selling access to her mom, and otherwise benefiting from her celebrity. That's more along the lines of lobbying. And it's a slimy business, though one in which lots of other relatives of famous folks have regularly taken part in. You would just hope that the family of a 19-year-old could sit that person down and have a little come-to-Jesus talk about how it's not such a good idea. But then, this family is legendary for its dysfunction, and this is just one more feature of that.
ReplyDeleteAt least she's not Operation Keepsake's new spokesperson. Oh that is more an Onion headline.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Kim.
ReplyDeleteProving that, increasingly, parody has nothing on reality.
ReplyDeleteI thought that precise thing when I read this, Miles. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed bizarre news, but I must say that a local university I know has a really good idea in that they have a campus-based, student-run PR agency. Under the guidance of a steady manager, the students take on local clients to put their communications skills to work and the area businesses get good counsel without astronomical prices.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. And I must say, I'm a tad surprised that this little news squib never got any larger play, at least not that I saw. Do please correct me anyone, if I've missed it.
