Inside Your Mind?
"My own favorite writer of essays is Emerson. Why is this? Because he writes as if I am inside his mind, a mind that is, as Robert Richardson expressed it, 'on fire.'"
--the poet Mary Oliver, from her introduction to The Best American Essays 2009.

You just made me want to read both of them again.
Glad to hear that, Kass.
I couldn't have said it better and is why Emerson is my all-time favorite essayist.
As you know better than most, Miles, poets have a way with words, including when they're writing about fellow poets.
I love Emerson as well. I'm teaching a creative writing course in May. I will share him as inspiration for my students.
Good luck with that class, Erana. Readers in the Phoenix, Arizona area, please note: this is no doubt a class worth taking.
Hello John! My own favorite writer of essays is Mary Oliver (not to mention poetry!) Thanks for bringing this one to my attention. Last summer on vacation, I read every one of her books that I could get my hands on - that was only about 20... It's wonderful to find you here. Warmest wishes,
Maia
Maia! How very cool that you've joined the discussion here. We love first-time commenters like family around here. And meeting and getting to know you a little has been like a shot of Vitamin B-- instant energy. I REALLY look forward to continuing to work with and get to know the CCF crew. I always leave those gatherings full of energy and ideas. Good luck in your work, and thanks again for stopping by to say hi, and to add your helpful endorsement of this writer.
