Working With Words Wins SPJ Award
This modest journal is blushing this morning, since we learned yesterday that the Society of Professional Journalists recognized WWW as its top blog in Ohio, actually tied for first with this food-themed blog, by a self-described grump. As I read over the list of winners in various categories, I was especially pleased to be in the company of so many friends, colleagues and acquaintances. You can see all of the awards here.

Congratulations, John. :)
Thanks, Jill. And as always, a special thanks for visiting and commenting.
Kudos my friend....
Congratulations John. May you have many more Web pages worth of opinion and commentary.
Thanks for stopping by, Ron and Miles.
Glad to see the SPJ knows a good thing when they see it. Congrats!
Cheers, John! This is wonderful -- you are so deserving.
Shalom John,
Mazel tov!
B'shalom,
Jeff
Congrats!!! You never did stop by for that cup of coffee :)
Amy in Maine
Many thanks, everyone. As for you, Amy, I expect to be in Maine sometime in August, so I hope we can connect.
By the way, Amy in Maine, you're going to have to send me your email address if we're ever to have that fabled cup of coffee, because I don't find one anywhere on your blog.
Congratulations, John. As I've told you before, I read your blog regularly -- even in these crazed, on-the-road days. You have built a thoughtful, sane place where inspiration simmers and wisdom reigns.
Connie Schultz
Connie,
I'm touched that you've chosen to spend a couple of moments you probably didn't have today to figure out the geeky process for leaving comments and to then share publicly what you've said privately. You know that I'm especially proud of you for having stuck by your high writing and reporting standards for years, when single parenthood and a number of other hurdles made that so difficult.
Your Pulitzer last year wasn't merely a testament to your abundant talents--that's obvious--but even more to your otherworldly persistence and writerly courage. And that's indeed been an inspiration to many, including me. Thanks for reading, and especially for commenting.
Congrats, well deserved.
Jimmy, thanks for visiting. I'm touched by how many old pals have stopped by to say hello.
John: Congratulations on this recognition!
Thanks, Maria. Hope you're enjoying the summer with your son.
Bravo, J. Can't believe you didn't share that with me last week as I went on and on about my SPJ award. Well deserved, my friend.
Kudos to you, John! And very well-deserved! (Although, you do realize that you are giving all of us "fake journalists" a BAD NAME...)
But that's okay! Just like Jon Stewart begged Anderson Cooper to "Please save network news, won't you-???" - I ask, and see, the same thing with YOU in local Cleveland journalism.
I'm no Jon Stewart (by any means) - but the sentiment, regardless, remains the same!
PLEASE NOTE: A nice comment by you on my behalf here might make my "eternal pain" more bearable - and keep me from sobbing in my beer ...at some bar ...sitting next to John Lanigan.
But that's "the curse of the comedian," I guess. Always trading laughs for love!
I'm jesting, of course (Well, sort of... I know no other way!). But, um, PLEASE HURRY with those kind words... Mr. Lanigan is getting quite "surly."
Chris, I'd recommend you highly to anyone, including Lanigan. Hell, imagine if I'd have at least met you once, how highly I'd speak about you then? So let's be sure to catch up for that long-postponed beer/cocktail/coffee before we get too deep into July, shall we?
Another me-too congratulations! The award is well deserved, and it couldn't go to someone who is more encouraging to other writers and bloggers.
Thanks for all you do,
Tina
Tina, kind of you to drop by. Sometime you'll have to tell me how you happened to come stumble upon this site. I suppose we have a mutual friend or two. Perhaps Jack R. of jackzen?
While I'm not entirely sure how I found your blog, the chain of connections probably went:
Niko (my real-life cousin, and writer of com[m]union blog) to George of BFD to Jack of jackzen to you
The only '3D' connection would be Niko.
That makes sense, Tina. And how is Niko getting along in England? Please send him my regards when you talk to him next.
Sounds good, John! I'm sure we both have a lot of interesting "war stories" to swap - and since it's unlikely I will have my own talk show in the near future - where I invite you to share your knowledge and wisdom - while I make my own comedic off-the-cuff ass-hat comments - a bar or coffee house might be the best place to make this transaction actually happen.
Chris, then we can add that plan of yours to the list of things we should discuss. I'll buzz you soon to schedule.
